an especially special day

It's our youngest nephew's first birthday today, and I can't believe it. First birthdays are especially special, I think. He is such a precious miracle, and we love him so much. We have so much to celebrate today!

For some reason, Winnie the Pooh quotes always tug at my heart strings. There's one that makes me think of our sweet little nephew.

"Sometimes the smallest things (or people) take up the most room in your heart."

See what I mean? A.A. Milne quotes are tearjerkers, I tell ya. Apparently not meant for softies like me.

I remember the first time I saw Carter after he was born, and he was perfect. I couldn't get over how tiny he was. Even though he had no clue who I was, and I just had seen him for the first time, the little guy immediately filled my heart with happiness.

Now, I can't imagine a family gathering without him. And he's crawling all over the place playing with cars and starting to eat some "grown-up" foods.

I still need to wrap his present - he loves Mickey and is having a Mickey themed birthday party. I know he'll love his party -- anytime he sees Mickey his face lights up and he flashes his handsome smile.

Without having kids, I find it tricky to shop for kiddos (of any age!) Thank goodness for gift receipts and Amazon wishlists. Clothes/sizing is hard, and gift cards aren't as fun because you want to watch them unwrap something, but you never know what toys people already have or what they'll like. I still think it's fun attempting to pick something out.

For our nephew, we got this "Baby Spring Float Activity Center" with a detachable canopy from Amazon. We spend a
lot of time at pools and lakes with Preston's family, and
it sounds like our nephew already likes the water. If all else fails, I know he'll like the Mickey Mouse wrapping paper. ;)

By the way, it's April already!?!?!? As excited as I am for summer, this year is flying by a little too quickly.

Well, I don't know about you - but we've got a party to go to... So I better go pick out my outfit.

xo,
Emily
