With this stormy, rainy kick-off to summer we've been having that quote just seemed appropriate. ;)
I honestly was hoping this would be one of those weekends where I had absolutely no time to sit behind a computer screen -- because we were so busy biking and playing tennis and gardening and grilling and maybe even laying by a swimming pool...
but we have spent 99% of our time inside so far.
Thursday night we went to the driving range -- and although a bit windy it was SUNNY.
And yesterday, we went to lunch at Granite City and sat on their patio. Other than our menus, coasters, straws, napkins, and food blowing away, it felt good to soak up some rays.
After lunch, we went to "Iron Man 3" (It was good! 3D effects weren't too amazing in my opinion, though -- would've been just fine to see in non-3D. And so many good previews -- "Man of Steel" looks AMAZING!) Then since we were on the east side of town, we went to my 3 favorite stores --- that just so happen to all be connected now! Target, Kohls, and Maurices! I love the Dawley Farm area and was so happy to read about the expansion plans.
Definitely an up-in-coming area.
After a busy day, we met some great friends for supper at Applebees -- and got home just in time for the storms to start.
Last night's thunderstorms TOTALLY freaked our poor cats out -- and us a little too when fire trucks showed up across the street after some particularly bad lightning. For a second when we heard the sirens of the fire truck, we thought they were tornado sirens. Thank goodness that wasn't the case -- but a fire is still scary.
This morning we went to church, came home, and decided we aren't leaving the house today.
We put on sweat pants, watched movies, read --- and were overall just the 80-year-olds we truly are at heart. ;)

Tomorrow we are headed to Yankton where my little sister Olivia said she will have a "magnificent 7-layer-chocolate-cake," "in a special shape," waiting for Preston's birthday. She really likes him. :)
I don't know about a 7-layer cake, but there may indeed end up being cake since it's Preston's birthday on Tuesday. Preston says his favorite cake in the whole world is my mom's from-scratch chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.
This is a sore subject with me, because I have made chocolate cakes and pies and cookies and muffins and bars and brownies... and Preston has said nothing I've made is quite as good as my mom's chocolate cake. He jokingly says the ingredient missing when I bake him stuff is "love." He's such a charmer. ;)
I'm hoping that the weather doesn't disappoint tomorrow -- because along with eating cake we're planning to put Olivia's trampoline together, make s'mores over the fire pit, run through the sprinkler, play some doubles tennis, skateboard and bike (Olivia's faves), celebrate a late Mother's Day with my amazing mom, and just enjoy all having Monday off and sitting outside drinking lemonade and chatting! Weather -- please don't ruin it.
Olivia doesn't realize that we are more excited than her to jump on her new trampoline. I'm a little upset, because I always wanted a trampoline when I was a kid, but my parents always thought they were too dangerous.
Apparently now that they have nets or something around them, they're safe...
So Olivia gets one. I'm happy for her... Really. Not jealous at all. As long as she plans on sharing -- otherwise I might have to tell on her to my mom and dad.
There are some things you don't grow out of I guess.
