Spain Photo Diary

So I already posted a few pictures and talked about where we stayed in Spain here.

In this post, I'm going to talk about the fun stuff. More than likely there will be way more information and photos than you'd care to see. :)

For me, the coolest thing we saw was La Seu cathedral. It was AH-mazing! I never would've guessed I would be so impressed (apparently my rhyming abilities improved in Spain) -- and we almost didn't take the tour to see it -- we were going to spend the day at the beach. So glad we made the right decision! Here are some pictures of the gorgeous cathedral that took 4 centuries to build.

On the same day we toured La Seu cathedral, we also visited Bellver Castle. My favorite part was the view of the city from the top of the castle. It was over 100 degrees every day we were there, the sun was incredibly bright (leading to squinty/closed eyes), it was always incredibly humid and super windy all the time, and on top of all of that my hair straightener broke the first day I tried using it with the converter thing I bought specifically FOR that purpose --- so I don't think there are any, truly good pictures of me and Preston -- but I still treasure the ones we got, no matter how unattractive they are.

After the castle, we headed back to the hotel and had supper on the terrace that overlooks the city of Palma. I think the terrace was my FAVORITE part of the whole hotel. We had a few different dinners there and loved to just sit up there as the sun went down. So beautiful. Here are some shots from the terrace. In my previous post, I have much better pictures of what the terrace actually looked like.

On the same day we took the couple of pictures above, we went to the Spanish Village in Mallorca -- we got to explore the beautiful area, listen to live music, and watch flamenco dancers. Oh, and we had very authentic Mallorcan food ---- which I was not crazy about, but Preston was adventurous. If you think nothing on his plate looks recognizable, that would be a total understatement. It looks much better than it tasted. Normally I take tons of pictures of food when I'm on vacation, but this time I didn't. I think that's mainly because I didn't care for it. Now looking back, I wish I would've taken more pictures of the pretty presentation of many of the meals and yummy desserts.

One day, we splashed around a little in the Mediterranean Sea -- more specifically we went to Port of Pollensa. Then we drove up a narrow, winding road to the El Colomer viewpoint. It was so gorgeous. And after a couple not-so-great shots, my camera died. The water was indescribably clear and beautiful. The beach we went to was incredibly crowded and filled with topless/nude people, but it was definitely an experience. I think in Europe, the skimpiest bikini you could buy in the United States would be considered modest.

On one day, we toured the Gardens of Alfabia (planted in the 1200s for someone's house and still maintained) and the quaint town of Fornalutx -- seriously gorgeous. Although we didn't get a chance to go hiking in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, we did get to see them, because Fornalutx is hidden within them.

Miscellaneous Shots:
We did NOT by a long shot accomplish everything we wanted to when we were there. Sometimes it's hard to plan when you know nothing about the area and don't know anyone who's visited the exact location. We were going mainly off Internet suggestions -- and once we got there we found out the many of the activities aren't all that common or safe, so we couldn't find tours to take us (such as deep water soloing.) But, we also did many activities we never planned. So overall, it evened out. These last pictures don't really fit into any of the above categories, but I thought they were worth putting on here.

The End.
